Ashalim Solar Projects Hit Record Low Price

Israel's fourth solar energy farm at Ashalim in the Negev Desert has begun operating with a record low price of 8 agorot (2.2 cents) per kWh. The facility is the latest in a string of government-backed renewable energy projects in the country with the goal of producing 30 percent of Israel's electricity from renewable sources by 2030. The Ashalim facility is a public-private partnership between the government and the Israeli arm of French company EDF Renewables, with the developer responsible for the financing, construction and operation of the plant for 25 years. EDF Renewables has also secured NIS 1 billion in financing for seven other solar projects in Israel with a total capacity of 189 MW.
