  • Argentina's renewable energy capacity grows with 65.1 MW added in Q2 2024, powering over 6 million homes and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

Argentina added 65.1 MW of new renewables capacity in the second quarter of 2024, including two solar farms, two biogas thermal power plants, and one wind farm. The La Elbita stage 1 wind farms in Buenos Aires province contributed 49.5 MW, while the Victorica and Helios Santa Rosa II solar farms in La Pampa and Mendoza added 7.2 MW and 5.2 MW, respectively. The remaining capacity came from two biogas thermal power plants.

With these additions, Argentina now has a total of 220 operational renewable energy plants, totaling 5,961 MW, which can meet the electricity demand of over 6 million homes. In the second quarter, renewables accounted for 18.6% of electricity demand in April, 12.4% in May, and 14.3% in June, with hydro included in the calculation mix.

Overall, renewable power generation represented 41.45% of electricity demand in April, 39.49% in May, and 34.3% in June when including hydro plants of 50 MW or more. Argentina continues to make progress in increasing its renewable energy capacity and reducing its reliance on fossil fuels for electricity generation.
