Arctech expands Jeddah tracker factory as Saudi localizes solar supply
- Tracker maker Arctech completed phase-two expansion of its Jeddah factory, deepening Saudi manufacturing for gigawatt-scale solar build-out
Arctech has finished the second-phase expansion of its Jeddah manufacturing plant, boosting local production of single-axis trackers just as Saudi Arabia accelerates utility-scale solar. Localizing hardware matters: it shortens lead times, reduces logistics risk, and can unlock procurement points in tenders that reward domestic content. For developers, nearby supply also helps with spares and warranty service—key to keeping availability high across desert sites.
The expansion follows several regional tracker supply wins, reflecting how the Middle East’s solar pipeline is maturing from pilot clusters to multi-gigawatt programs. In Saudi conditions, tracker durability and soiling management are front-and-center. Expect continued tweaks to bearing seals, torque tube designs, and cleaning strategies—robotic or semi-automated—to limit energy losses. Grid-forming inverter integration, now common on hybrid sites, pairs well with trackers that can optimize backtracking and diffuse-light performance.
For the Kingdom’s industrial policy, adding value in-country is the point: new skilled jobs, export potential to neighbors, and a sturdier supply chain for national targets. If Arctech maintains quality while scaling output, Jeddah could become a hub for projects across the Gulf and North Africa.
