An InBev, Verbund, BayWa toast to 148-MWp solar farm in Spain
- Beer-making international Anheuser-Busch InBev SA (EBR: ABI) on Wednesday inaugurated the 147.6-MWp Verbund Pinos Puente solar farm in southerly Spain, a couple of projects consisted of in its cross-border virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) announced in very early 2020.
The project was developed by German renewables strong BayWa r.e., before selling it to its present operator Austrian power manufacturer Verbund AG (VIE: VER) in November 2021. At the time, the project was referred to as the Illora solar park.
BayWa r.e. was the event that signed the VPPA with An InBev, setting up a ten-year offer for Illora/Verbund Pinos Puente and also an additional solar growth. According to a joint statement launched by the three firms on Wednesday, that second solar farm will be connected to the grid by the end of October.
The Verbund Pinos Puente solar farm will create some 260 GWh annually. An InBev's VPPA covers the supply of 250 GWh/year, which is enough power to brew over 10 billion beers annually. The plan also allows the beer manufacturer to match its whole power consumption in Western Europe with 100% renewables, according to the press release.
