Amphenol, one of the world’s largest designers and manufacturers of connectors and sensors, is investing $15 million to open a 58,000-sq.-ft factory in Mesa, Arizona to make junction boxes and their associated connectors for both thin-film and silicon solar panel designs. The facility is due to open before the end of the year, creating 50 specialized jobs in the solar manufacturing market. Amphenol will focus on two core junction box designs, with the capacity of 1 million pieces per month. The Mesa factory has the space for a dozen production lines and connectors from the Amphenol H4 family. This new production facility may help module manufacturers qualify for “domestic content” bonus credits in the IRA, as long as 40% of their manufactured components are American-made.
