Ameresco Inc has officially launched commercial operations at a 42-MW solar park with storage at a military base on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. The Kupono solar farm, installed within the Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam West Loch Annex base, will feed electricity into Hawaiian Electric’s grid on O‘ahu, meeting the power demand of about 10,000 homes on the Hawaiian island.
The PV park includes a four-hour integrated battery energy storage system with a capacity of 42 MW/168 MWh, making it the largest solar-plus-battery storage facility on Oʻahu. The project supports Hawai‘i's goal of achieving 100% clean energy by 2045 and is one of several projects Ameresco has completed for Hawaiian Electric, including a 40-MW biofuel-powered renewable energy park.
