Alliant Energy Launches Iowa’s Largest Solar Farm
- Alliant Energy’s 200-MW Pleasant Creek Solar farm in Iowa is now operational, becoming the state’s largest solar project and powering 40,000 homes.
Alliant Energy Corp (NASDAQ: LNT) has activated its 200-MW solar farm in Linn County, Iowa, which has become the biggest solar facility in the state.
The project was previously called Duane Arnold Solar when it was being developed but has been renamed Pleasant Creek Solar after the nearby lake that was formed when the Duane Arnold Energy Center nuclear plant was decommissioned.
The project was originally developed by Duane Arnold Solar LLC, a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources, but is now fully owned by Alliant Energy. The first 50 MW was brought online in March 2024, and the remaining 150 MW was brought online in December.
The Pleasant Creek Solar project is expected to generate enough clean electricity to power about 40,000 homes each year. The project marks the completion of Alliant Energy’s 400 MW solar capacity in Iowa after the company launched the Creston and Wever solar projects in 2024.
Alliant Energy operates around 1,300 MW of wind power in Iowa in addition to its solar investments. The company has installed about 1,500 MW of utility-scale solar capacity in Iowa and Wisconsin since 2022.
