Algeria chooses 11 sites for 1-GW solar project

- Algeria has recognized 11 sites for the advancement of the "Solar 1,000" project that consists of the building of solar plants with a complete capacity of 1 GW, the Ministry of Energy Transition as well as Renewable Energies said on Tuesday.
The sites have an overall location of 4,250 hectares (10,502 acres) and were selected with the active participation of the provinces worried by the project including El Bayadh, Ouargla, El Oued, El M'Ghair, Ghardaia as well as Bechar.
A task force has been set up to prepare the documents needed for the financiers that will join the tenders for the "Solar 1,000" project which ought to be launched by the end of this year, the ministry stated.
The task force has additionally laid out the ideal monetary terms for the project.
The ministry anticipates also the launch of the Algerian renewable energy business Shaems which will be associated with the execution of the project.
