- Akuo recently inaugurated O'MEGA 1 Bis, a 22MW extension of the power plant creating a plethora of new opportunities for local communities. With the extension already generating 25,500GWh of electricity and a successful crowdfunding initiative, the project also serves as an initiative for local agriculture.
Akuo has recently inaugurated the O'MEGA 1 Bis extension, increasing the power plant's capacity to 22MW. The extension was built by Equans subsidiary Bouygues Energies & Services and has already generated 25,500GWh of electricity since coming online in July 2021. Akuo has also launched a crowdfunding initiative in the fall of 2021 to finance the project, resulting in €1.185m received from local communities. The O'MEGA 1 project also serves as an initiative for local agriculture, with 6 hectares of land made available to farmers to experiment with organic crops.
What Benefits Has O'MEGA 1 Provided?
- O'MEGA 1 has provided Duke Energy with a clean, renewable alternative to traditional energy sources.
- The solar project will be able to generate enough electricity to power 35,000 homes, offering a reliable source of energy for the local community.
- The contract will help Duke Energy meet their Indiana Integrated Resource Plan, which will add a total of 8,868 MW of solar, wind and solar-plus-storage to their fleet.
- More importantly, the project will help Duke Energy reduce their carbon emissions, contributing to their goal of becoming a greener, more sustainable energy provider.
- The project will also create jobs during its construction and continue to offer employment opportunities for those who will maintain and operate the facility.
