ABO Wind, Tricera to add 25 MWh of battery storage in Germany
- German renewable energy developer ABO Wind AG and battery storage expert Tricera Energy GmbH have joined forces to install three battery storage systems in Germany, with an aggregate capacity exceeding 25 MWh.

ABO Wind stated on Monday that these batteries would be operational in the year 2023. The storage solution, engineered by Tricera, uses modules from recycled batteries originally used in electric vehicles.
Julia Badeda, Division Manager for Hybrid Energy Systems and Storage at ABO Wind, commented that the automotive industry, being a primary consumer of lithium-ion batteries, will play a significant role in the development of superior quality battery packs in the forthcoming decade. She further added, "Through these projects, we are accumulating crucial experience as a developer of stationary storage systems for the extensive application of automotive packs in their first or second life."
These battery systems will be part of hybrid projects and will be integrated with photovoltaic plants. These plants, located in Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia, and Hesse, have a combined capacity of 20.4 MWp.
Tariffs for these projects will be secured via innovation tenders from the Federal Network Agency.
