- Elements Green unveils plans for an 800-MW/1000 MW DC solar park with battery energy storage in England. Great North Road Solar Park to provide green electricity to 400,000 homes/year. Now working to determine best areas for panels, infrastructure. DCO submission planned for Spring 2025. A Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project.
British renewable energy developer Elements Green has unveiled plans for an 800-MW/1000 MW DC solar park with battery energy storage in the East Midlands of England. Once operational, the Great North Road Solar Park is expected to provide green electricity to around 400,000 local homes per year. Elements Green is now working to determine the most appropriate areas for the solar panels and associated infrastructure across the available land and will submit a Development Consent Order in the spring of 2025 with the UK Planning Inspectorate. The project has been classified as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project.
What Areas Will Great North Road Solar Park Use?
- Great North Road Solar Park will use over 10,000 acres of land in the East Midlands of England, with the project reaching up to 1000MW of energy generation capacity.
- Solar panels and associated infrastructure will be placed across available land to maximize energy generation efficiency.
- The majority of solar panels will be located in the East Midlands to capture the most sunlight energy and ensure the project meets its energy production target.
- The Park will also include battery energy storage as part of its infrastructure, allowing for more efficient energy storage and release as needed.
- The project will also include additional infrastructure such as cables, transformers, and substations in order to transport and distribute the energy produced.
