Saudi Arabian chemical company SABIC has awarded a $76 million contract to Spanish utility Iberdrola to develop a 100 MW captive solar plant for SABIC's industrial complex in Spain. The photovoltaic (PV) solar plant located in La Aljorra, will be equipped with over 260,000 solar panels and supply renewable electricity to SABIC's polycarbonate facility for 25 years. The renewable power produced by the plant will help SABIC customers in sectors such as automotive and construction access 100% renewable electricity generated polycarbonate solutions.

What is SABIC and Iberdrola's Global Partnership?

  • SABIC, the Saudi Arabian chemical company, and Iberdrola, the Spanish utility, have formed a global partnership for the development of a 100 MW captive solar plant for SABIC’s industrial complex in Spain.
  • The photovoltaic (PV) solar project will have an investment of $76 million and will be located on land owned by SABIC in the town of La Aljorra, where Iberdrola will install more than 260,000 solar panels.
  • Iberdrola will supply clean power to SABIC’s polycarbonate facility in Spain for 25 years as per the power purchase agreement (PPA).
  • The solar plant will allow SABIC customers in markets including the automotive and construction sectors access to 100% renewable electricity produced polycarbonate solutions.
