30MW Finnish Battery: Glennmont, Ilmatar, and Alfen Join Forces
- Glennmont, Nuveen, Ilmatar, Alfen and Piiparinmäki team up to construct a 30MW battery storage project in Central Finland. This project, powered by Alfen's TheBattery Elements, will provide 41MWh of energy and become operational in 2024. Invest in renewables and maximize opportunity with Glennmont.
Glennmont Partners from Nuveen, in collaboration with Nordic power company Ilmatar and Dutch energy solutions specialist Alfen, is constructing a 30MW battery storage project next to its 211MW Piiparinmäki wind farm in Central Finland. The storage project will use Alfen’s TheBattery Elements battery storage system, and is equipped to store 41MWh of energy. It is set to become operational in January 2024. This marks Glennmont's entry into the electricity reserve market, following their acquisition of Italian and Swedish solar and wind projects in 2023. Francesco Cacciabue, partner at Glennmont, stated that the project will enable maximum benefit from established renewables technologies, and maximize opportunity for their investors.
What Benefits Will Glennmont's Storage Project Bring?
- Increasing the flexibility of the energy grid to respond to the fluctuations of renewable energy
- Optimizing the use of energy from the existing 211MW Piiparinmäki wind farm
- Enabling electricity reserve markets, providing a stable and reliable energy source
- Maximizing opportunity for investors
- Creating a large-scale battery storage system with the capacity of 41MWh
- Providing a more stable and efficient energy grid for Finland and the surrounding region
- Allowing for improved renewable energy supply reliability and grid stability
