2.2 GW of Solar Power Can Be Brought to Serbia by Hive Energy Projects
- Hive Energy announces plans for 14 solar power projects in Serbia with a combined capacity of 2,211 MW, solidifying its commitment to sustainable energy in the region
What happened?
UK renewables developer Hive Energy has 14 solar power projects in the works in Serbia with a total installed capacity of 2,211 MW. Hive opened an office in Belgrade in May 2022 to serve as a regional hub for Serbia, Bosnia and Montenegro. Currently, Hive has land secured for three projects in Serbia with a total capacity of 450 MW, and the company expects to secure land for another project of 40 MW in the near future and a further 290 MW by mid-2023.
Why does it matter?
Hive Energy's move into Serbia is significant as the country has recently adopted a new law on energy and renewable energy, and has aspirations to become a member of the European Union. By transposing EU energy law into its own legislation, Serbia is committed to increasing its use of renewable energy sources. Hive Energy's investment in the country demonstrates the company's commitment to promoting sustainable energy in the region and its belief in the potential for growth in Serbia's renewable energy sector.
What's next?
With land secured for several projects and more expected in the coming months, Hive Energy is poised to make a significant contribution to Serbia's renewable energy sector. The company's focus on sustainability and its commitment to the region will likely continue to drive its growth in the future. Additionally, Hive Energy's presence in Belgrade positions it well to explore project options in Bosnia and Montenegro, further expanding its reach in the region.
