The Upgraded Alamo 1 Solar Becomes More Productive
- The renovation of the San Antonio South-based OCI Alamo solar plant has greatly enhanced its performance. According to Jason Thompson- the company’s construction manager, the plant is now fitted with tracker technology as well as bifacial modules to be used for data gathering and field testing.
The company replaced all its trackers with state of-art-devices that deploy an array of technologies. Even though, the firm still uses the already developed infrastructure of the solar farm such as the balance-of-system and inverters.
The company worked alongside the Swinerton Builders and KACO new energy in the upgrading programs.
According to the President and CEO Charles Kim, It is a major upgrade that has never been witnessed in the solar industry globally. KIM said that they managed to get the task accomplished without having to de-energize the whole project. He said that the success of the project has given them a lot of energy and confidence. As a result, they were looking for other opportunities that will involve upgrading projects.
Alamo I is situated at 2361 S land and occupies 445 acres of land on blue wing road. The company started its operations in 2013 and is generating 39 Mw.
