What is Sulfation?
Large crystals of lead sulfate growing on a battery plate. Formation of such crystals is usually caused by temperature cycling in partially discharged cells. Unlike normal small crystals induced by usual reactions and self-discharge processes, the huge crystals make batteries difficult to charge. Sulfation may result from leaving a discharged battery unused for a long time.
