What is Recombination?
The process of reuniting between a free electron and a hole. It can be either radiative or non-radiative. Radiative recombination is the one releasing energy in the form of light, while non-radiative recombination discharges energy in the form of heat. Free electrons can combine with holes in the bulk of the semiconductor, at the surfaces, in the depletion layer, at defects, or between the interfaces.
