What is Net metering?

Also referred to as net energy metering. The billing scheme for grid-tied photovoltaic systems. According to the scheme, all the surplus electricity generated by a solar system is injected to the power grid, for which the system owner is paid by the utility company at a specified FIT. In case a customer consumes more electricity than produces, the utility charges for the power imported from the grid at a standard tariff.
