What are Fossil Fuels?

A kind of fuel gradually developing during millions of years from buried and fossilized plants and animals. The majority of living organisms get decomposed after death, releasing carbon to the atmosphere as part of a carbon cycle. In case the biomass is quickly buried with no opportunity to get totally decomposed, the carbon is stored geologically in the form of natural gas, oil and coal, thus being removed from the active carbon cycle.
