What is Earth?
An electric unit with exposed metal parts must have a grounding wire. This earthing wire is connected directly to the ground (sometimes by means of attaching to water or heat piping of a house). The purpose of grounding is to protect a person who can touch a metal device from electrical shock by directing electricity flow to the earth. Equipment in plastic cover is safe and does not need any earthing.
