Raizen to Supply Renewable Power to Embracon
Brazil's Raizen Power has secured a contract to supply 54 MWh of solar and biomass energy to various units of Embracon, a Brazilian independent consortium administrator. The distributed generation (DG) contract will cover nine states and involves a partnership between Embracon and power plants managed by Raizen Power, making the locations self-generators of renewable energy. The partnership will also include the issuance of global I-RECS certificates and is expected to offset around 190 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year. Raizen Power, a subsidiary of sugar exporter and cellulosic ethanol producer Raizen SA, currently manages over 50 solar and biomass-fired plants, further solidifying its position in the renewable energy sector. What are the benefits of Raizen Power's solar and biomass energy contract with Embracon? Reduction of carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 190 tonnes per year Increased use of renewable energy sources such as solar and biomass Contribution to the growth of distributed generation (DG) in Brazil Partnership between Raizen Power and Embracon to promote sustainable energy practices Issuance of global I-RECS certificates to demonstrate commitment to renewable energy initiatives Expansion of Raizen Power's portfolio of solar and biomass-fired plants, strengthening its presence in the renewable energy sector.

Cocal Powers Up Second Solar Park in Sao Paulo
Brazilian renewable energy company Cocal has launched its second solar photovoltaic (PV) park in western Sao Paulo, investing BRL 25 million (USD 4.4m/EUR 3.9m). The new facility, developed with Lemon Energia in Presidente Bernardes, will generate 13,000 MWh of clean electricity annually under Brazil’s distributed generation model, benefiting both Cocal and the local community.Cocal's employees and local residents are expected to save up to 15% on electricity bills monthly. The company inaugurated its first solar farm in Pirapozinho in October 2023, producing 3,000 MWh annually, and is exploring further solar projects in Sao Paulo. How will Cocal's new solar park impact electricity costs for local residents? The new solar park will increase the supply of clean energy, potentially reducing reliance on more expensive, non-renewable energy sources. By generating 13,000 MWh annually, the park will contribute to stabilizing electricity prices in the region. Local residents may experience up to a 15% reduction in their monthly electricity bills due to the lower cost of solar energy. The distributed generation model allows residents to benefit directly from the energy produced, leading to cost savings. Increased local energy production can reduce transmission losses, further lowering costs. The project may encourage competition among energy providers, potentially driving down prices. The success of this solar park could lead to more renewable projects, further decreasing electricity costs over time.
