Romania's EUR 278m Battery Boost: Powering the Future
Romania's energy ministry has launched two calls for projects related to batteries and photovoltaic (PV) panels, with a total value of over EUR 278 million. The calls, supported by European funds, are open from February 8 to March 21. The first call aims to establish a minimum 240 MW/480 MWh battery energy storage capacity by June 2026, with a budget of around EUR 79.6 million. The second call is dedicated to projects supporting investments in the entire value chain of batteries and PV cells and panels, with EUR 149.25 million allocated for new battery production, assembly, and recycling capacities, and EUR 49.75 million for new PV cell and panel capacities. The ministry aims to have at least 2 GW of annual capacity for battery production and/or assembly and recycling, and at least 200 MW of annual capacity for PV production and/or assembly and recycling by June 2026.
