Azure Power to deploy 2GW of PV capacity through SECI’s manufacturing-linked tender
India’s Azure Power has won the auction held by SECI to deploy 2 gigawatt of grid-link photovoltaic capacity. In its turn, Azure is obliged to develop 500 megawatts of production capacity yearly. The manufacturing facilities will be built together with a local panel manufacturer.  Under the terms of 25-year PPA between Azure and Solar Energy Corp., the power generated will be purchased at the price of 0.041 USD per kilowatt hour. The project is scheduled for commissioning in phases. The first phase is slated to become operational in two years, the final phase – three years later. The power plants may be installed in any part of the country. Besides, the agreement includes a green shoe clause, providing an option of increasing the power capacity deployed twice.  Azure Power has already installed 5 gigawatts of PV. The Indian power producer and developer is the only tenderer who has demonstrated consistent interest in SECI’s auction. The tender has been revised, downsized and delayed quite a number of times. Eventually, the target was 7 gigawatts of power generation in exchange for 2 gigawatts of production capacity per year.

India’s Adani Green Energy buys operational 205MW from Essel Group
Indian energy giant Adani Green Energy Limited has inked a deal to purchase 205MW of contracted and operational solar assets from Essel Group for an enterprise price of INR1,300 crore (US$182 million). The purchased assets are in the states of Punjab, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh and have long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with state electricity distribution companies that average around 22 years. The deal was made with Essel Green Energy Private Limited and Essel Infraprojects, entities of the debt-laden Essel Group. The Mumbai-based conglomorate is run by Indian billionnaire Subhash Chandra, and is best known for its television and media businesses. Essel Infrastructure counts 685MW of solar assets of which 310MW are operational. The group is looking to offload the remainder of its portfolio in order to shrink its debt, according to reports in India’s Business Today and Live Mint. In a statement on Thursday, Adani Green Energy CEO Jayant Parimal said his company, one of the largest renewable power generation companies in India, now owns 5.5GW of renewable power, of which 2.5GW has been commissioned.  In May, Adani Green Energy switched on a 50MWac solar PV project in Uttar Pradesh.
