Oz developer gets grid assessment nod for 240MW battery
Australian renewables equip Maoneng has been awarded grid connection assessment approval for a 240MW battery project in Victoria.
The Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) has given Maoneng grid connection assessment approval to connect the standalone 240MW/480 megawatt-hour energy storage project to AusNet's Tyabb substation in the southerly part of the Victorian grid.
The Mornington battery project received growth approval earlier this year and also is scheduled for completion in very early 2024.
It is expected to create approximately 160 full time equal jobs throughout its 12-month construction phase, which will support regional companies as well as the economy.
The BESS will draw and save energy from the grid during off-peak periods and also send off energy to the grid during top periods.
Maoneng co-founder and CEO Morris Zhou said the grid connection assessment approval was a crucial advance for the project.
" The Mornington BESS is actually coming together.
" We now have the assessment approval in addition to the development approval, for a property that will certainly sustain the Victorian Government's objective of enhancing local power reliability.
" This project is proceeding at once when demand for renewable resource as well as connected storage space capacity is boosting, and also we are seeing a whole lot more interest in battery projects both in Australia as well as worldwide-- they are vital to the clean energy shift."
