Sunny Albania Powers Up With Solar Plant
Albania has turned to solar power as a way to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and increase energy production. The Karavasta power station, located on 200 hectares of land provided by the Albanian government, has 234,828 new solar panels that will generate 140 megawatts of electricity, powering hundreds of thousands of homes in the country. During the construction of the power station, specific projects were created to protect the local species of frogs, as well as bird diverters to protect the migratory flyways and nesting areas for pelicans and pink flamingos. The project also included the appropriation of land from 53 families, who will be reimbursed by the state and Voltalia. In the coming weeks the Karavasta solar power plant will be connected to the Albanian energy grid.
What Benefits Will Albania Reap from Karavasta Power Station?
The benefits Albania will reap from the Karavasta Power Station include:
Increased energy production to power hundreds of thousands of homes
Reduced reliance on fossil fuels
Reimbursement of 53 families for land appropriation
Protection of local species of frogs
Bird diverters to protect migratory flyways and nesting areas for pelicans and pink flamingos
Increased job opportunities related to the construction and maintenance of the power station
Increased revenue for the Albanian government due to the sale of electricity produced by the station
Increased energy independence from other countries

Albania's Solar Power Ambitions Soar with 300 MW Tender
Albania has launched a tender for the construction of 300 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) parks as part of its plan to become a net exporter of renewable energy by 2030. The tender, which opened on Monday and will close on May 17, will accept proposals with capacities ranging from 10 MW to 100 MW. The government will award successful candidates 15-year contracts for their plants' future output. The names of the winners will be announced on July 10. The tender is supported by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. This is the third solar tender held by Albania, which aims to deploy 1 GW of solar power capacity by the end of the decade. The government will no longer provide land rights for individual projects, as it has done in the past. The competitive round has set a cap of EUR 59.97 (USD 65.28) per MWh for offers.

Albania's 140 MW PV tender ends with final price of EUR0.02489/ kWh.
Albania's Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy has announced the victor of the tender for the building and construction of a 140 MW solar power plant in the Karavasta area, in the centre of the country.
According to the European Bank for Growth and Repair, which aided the Albanian government in preparing and holding the tender, French solar company Voltalia safeguarded the task thanks to a quote of EUR0.02489/ kWh. "This rate-- less than half the ceiling of EUR55-- validated the value of preparing a tender in accordance with worldwide ideal method," the international lender claimed.
The solar park will certainly be built on 122ha in the Divjaka town, in Remas, and on a further 76ha in the Fier district of Libofsha. The government said building and construction will certainly not affect the secured Karavasta Shallows.
Under the terms of the tender, half the energy produced by the plant will make the granted toll with the remainder sold on the wholesale energy market.
The procurement exercise is the 2nd tender for big scale solar in Albania. A previous public auction, for a 100 MW solar park, was won by India Power in November 2018. Fifty percent of that job was awarded a 15-year toll of EUR0.0599/ kWh with the equilibrium sold on the retail power market.
