Solar EV start-up Aptera Motors to use Maxeon solar cells
- California solar electrical vehicle (EV) start-up Aptera Motors Corp has chosen Singapore-based solar cell as well as panel maker Maxeon Solar Technologies Ltd (NASDAQ: MAXN) to be the cell supplier for its solar production programme.
In collaboration with Maxeon, which is a spinoff of SunPower Corp, Aptera has actually created "ultra-lightweight as well as rounded solar panels," according to an announcement on Tuesday. Featuring nearly 700 W of integrated solar cells, its vehicle can drive up to 40 miles (64 kilometres) a day powered by the sunshine, along with a 1,000-mile battery range, the company says.
Aptera claimed it chose Maxeon's solar cells due to their performance, durability and light-weight. Thanks to their power, "most drivers will likely never require to charge their Aptera," the firm claims.
Maxeon acting chief executive Mark Babcock clarified that these are the same cells as those utilized in the business's solar panels for homes and businesses.
There are more than 35,000 appointment holders for the Aptera vehicle, the California outfit claims.
