  • Skylab's Punchs Creek Solar Farm in Queensland to power 300,000 homes with green electricity, supporting Australia's renewable energy goals.

The Australian government has approved Skylab's plan to build an 800-MW solar park with storage in Queensland, known as the Punchs Creek Solar Farm. The project will generate green electricity for around 300,000 local homes and will be built in two phases of 400 MW each, along with a 250-MW battery energy storage system.

The solar complex will consist of over 1.7 million solar panels installed on agricultural land in Queensland's Southern Downs region, with direct access to the Powerlink Transmission Network. The project aligns with Queensland's goal of sourcing 50% of its power from renewables by the end of the decade, and has been approved by the Toowoomba Regional Council in April. Minister for the Environment and Water, Tanya Plibersek, expressed the government's commitment to unlocking Australia's potential as a world leader in renewable energy.

What is the capacity of the battery energy storage system at Punchs Creek Solar Farm?

  • The battery energy storage system at Punchs Creek Solar Farm has a capacity of 250 MW
  • The storage system will help ensure a stable and reliable power supply for the local area
  • The project aligns with Queensland's goal of sourcing 50% of its power from renewables by the end of the decade
  • The Toowoomba Regional Council approved the project in April, highlighting the local support for renewable energy initiatives.
