SRP Boosts Arizona Grid with 340 MW Battery Storage
Arizona utility SRP has added 340 MW/1,360 MWh of battery storage capacity with the completion of two new facilities. The Sierra Estrella energy storage facility, with a capacity of 250 MW, is now the largest standalone battery in Arizona. The Superstition energy storage facility, with a capacity of 90 MW, is expected to go live this week. The new battery storage capacity will be able to power 76,000 homes for four hours and will help store excess energy during low demand periods for use during peak periods. The facilities were designed and will be operated by US battery storage specialist Plus Power, using lithium-ion battery energy storage systems made by Tesla.
