Sonatrach, Eni to build more solar farms to decarbonise oil manufacturing in Algeria
- Italian oil as well as gas major Eni SpA (BIT: ENI) has damaged the ground on a second 10-MW solar park in south-eastern Algeria that will certainly be built as part of a partnership with government-owned market company Sonatrach to support the decarbonisation of oil manufacturing.
The new solar photovoltaic or pv (PV) plant will certainly be found in the Bir Rebaa North (BRN) oil field in the Berkine basin, doubling the eco-friendly energy capacity available to power the upstream procedures. The project complies with the commissioning of another 10-MW solar center in 2018 which was the first PV plant established by the two companies as part of their participation.
A third solar park will be developed at the Menzel Ledjmet East Project (MLE) manufacturing complex, additionally in the Berkine Basin with building and construction work readied to start in 2023.
Furthermore, the two partners have additionally launched a research effort, called the Solar Lab, under which they will evaluate various photovoltaic panels in the extreme irradiation problems of southern Algeria. The goal of the project is to collect information as well as select the most effective technology. Colleges and also other public organizations will be likewise able to use Solar Lab for study objectives.
