  • Ørsted marks its entry into UK with One Earth solar farm, set to generate 740 MW of power to 200,000 homes. This is among the largest solar farms in the country and will help Ørsted reach its onshore capacity of 17.5 GW by 2030. 5.7 GW of onshore renewables are already operational or in the works.

Danish renewable energy firm, Ørsted has marked its entry into UK by launching its first solar project in the country. The One Earth solar farm with a proposed capacity of 740 MW will be set up in Nottinghamshire and boast battery storage. The project is co-developed with PS Renewables and is expected to power 200,000 homes once operational. The project is among the largest solar farms in the UK. Ørsted is looking to reach the onshore capacity of 17.5 GW by 2030 and the said project will help in augmenting the capacity. The firm has already exceeded 5.7 GW of onshore renewables that are operational, or in the phase of construction or have been cleared across the US and Europe.

What Impact Will Ørsted's UK Solar Project Have?

  • The solar farm is estimated to generate enough electricity to power 200,000 homes.
  • It is expected to reduce the UK's emissions by over 1 million tonnes of CO2 per year.
  • The project is set to be completed by 2024, and is part of Ørsted’s strategy to reach 17.5 GW of onshore capacity in the UK by 2030.
  • The solar farm will employ up to 350 people during its construction and will create up to 15 jobs during the operational phase.
  • The project is one of the largest solar farms in the UK and is the first solar project developed by Ørsted in the country.
  • The project will help increase the availability of renewable energy sources in the UK, which in turn will boost the economy and reduce reliance on non-renewable sources.
  • It is expected that the project will lead to an influx of investment in Nottinghamshire, creating new jobs and stimulating the local economy.
