Purcari Wineries installs 240 MWh solar plant at manufacturing site in Moldova

  • Bucharest-listed wine maker Purcari Wineries Group [BSE: WINE] claimed on Wednesday it has set up a 240 MWh photovoltaic or pv system on the rooftop of its Chateau Purcari manufacturing site in Moldova.

The photovoltaic system covers a location of 1,025 sq m and will cover 15% of the winery's electrical energy consumption, the business claimed in a statement filed with the Bucharest Stock Exchange.

The investment brings the group more detailed to its ambition of a much more lasting as well as CO2 neutral production, it said.

"We remain committed to achieving the long-term goal of environmental sustainability in our task, and also the investment in a Solar Panel System is a certain sign of our obligation in doing so," Purcari Wineries COO Eugen Comendant claimed.

The group stated it will continue to enhance its financial investments in sustainability, intending to cover up to 80% of its power consumption from solar parks.

Purcari Wineries takes care of over 1,350 hectares of wineries and operates 4 production platforms in Romania as well as Moldova. The company is the leader in the premium wine segment in Romania, with a 30% segment share, as well as the biggest wine exporter from Moldova, providing its fruit and vegetables to over 40 countries.

Purcari's shares were trading 0.11% lower at 9.21 lei ($1.9/ 1.87 euro) on the Bucharest Stock Exchange as at 1307CET on Wednesday.
