The company, which is a subsidiary of Otter Tail Corp (NASDAQ: OTTR) as well as supplies power as well as power solutions to some 230,000 people in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota, submitted the IRP with regulatory commissions in the three states it operates in recently.

Its chosen plan includes the addition of 150 MW of solar in 2025 at a place yet to be determined. In the preferred plan, the company is also looking for approval to include twin fuel capability at its 245-MW Astoria natural gas generator in South Dakota to ensure that it can utilize fuel oil in addition to gas, as well as to start the process of withdrawal from its 35% stake in the coal-fired Coyote Terminal in North Dakota in 2028.

Otter Tail Power claims its customers will get about 35% of their energy from renewables by 2023.
