The City of Sombor said it would offer maximum support to CMC Europe in developing and constructing a solar power plant on its region. The firm's depictive György Paris (visualized left) signed a collaboration protocol with Mayor Antonio Ratković (right).

There was no mention of the dimension in the press launch, however the City Council earlier claimed when it accepted the action that the solar facility would have an ability of 100 MW.

CMC Europe is a subsidiary of state-owned China National Machinery Import and Export Corp., part of China General Technology Team Holding or Genertec. In December it completed a 100 MW solar energy plant in Kaposvár in surrounding Hungary, where it is based. The project was worth EUR 100 million.

The collaboration with the city in northwest Serbia, near the boundary, was reviewed when the delegation from Sombor checked out the facility 3 months ago. The commencement event was kept in late May, after the beginning of business operation.

The city is surrounded by cultivable land and citizens there mostly lean on farming. Serbia accredited municipal units last month to lease low-grade farming land for solar farms and wind parks with tenders.
