  • McDonald’s signed two purchase agreements for 380 megawatts of renewable energy total capacity. The fast-food company is going to buy power produced by Aviator Wind as well as a large-scale solar project. Both facilities are located in Texas.

In March last year, McDonald’s was the first restaurant chain, which stated the greenhouse gas emission level goal accepted by Science Based Targets. The two United States green projects are going to represent huge progress to McDonald’s target to minimize harmful emissions by one third by year 2030. The gas emission decrease resulting from the above two projects is estimated to deliver 16 per cent in progress to McDonald’s goal within the framework of Climate Action or 6 per cent in CO2 emission decrease compared to the corporation’s 2015 baseline.

According to a McDonald’s chief officer, the fast-food corporation feels responsible to take measures against the urgent global social and environmental issues. The officer states the company is going to meet the clients’ expectations and to act in the proper way for our planet. He believes these forthcoming wind and solar solutions are a big step in their fight against climate change, as they are going to source power from renewables in lots of their European markets.

Apart from minimizing emissions across the chain of restaurants and offices, the fast food giant is also aimed at a one-third emission intensity decrease (from food and packaging) throughout the supply chain. Via the Scale for Good sustainability approach, corporation is moving to its 2025 target for full package production from renewable and recirculation sources as well as for full package recycling in all the McDonald’s restaurants.
