- First Solar to build 279 MW (dc) thin film solar panel project in Lawrence County, Alabama, slated for completion in 2027. Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has contracted First Solar to build a 279 MW (dc) thin film solar panel project in Lawrence County, Alabama, slated for completion in 2027. This will be its fourth facility in the US, and the company is investing heavily in the US with up to $1.3bn in investments, a $1.1bn facility in Lawrence County, and an $185m expansion of its current Ohio facility. Additionally, First Solar is investing up to $370m in a R&D innovation center in Perrysburg, Ohio to be completed in 2024, and a framework agreement with Energix Renewables in Israel to supply 5 GW of modules.
