Eneco Launches 800-MW Green H2 Hub in Rotterdam
Nov 21, 2023 04:54 PM ET
- Eneco is delivering a green revolution: 800-MW electrolyzer to produce 80,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually for industrial customers. By 2035, the Netherlands will have 4GW of green production capacity - join the revolution now.
Eneco has announced plans to build an 800-MW electrolyser in the Rotterdam port area. The plant will use electricity from solar and wind farms to produce green hydrogen for industrial customers and up to 80,000 tonnes annually. Construction is expected to begin in 2026 and production in 2029. It is part of Eneco's commitment to achieving climate neutrality by 2035 and is aligned with the Netherlands' goal of reaching 4 GW of green hydrogen production capacity by 2030.
What Is Eneco's 800-MW Green Hydrogen Plant?
- The 800-MW electrolyser will be the largest of its kind in the world, and is expected to create 1,000 jobs.
- The electrolyser will use electricity from solar and wind farms to split water molecules into their components, oxygen and hydrogen.
- The hydrogen produced will be used for industrial customers and exported to other countries.
- The plant will have a total capacity of up to 80,000 tonnes of hydrogen per year, which is enough to power up to 600,000 electric cars.
- The plant is estimated to reduce CO2 emissions by more than 1 million tonnes per year.
- The project will also include an R&D centre, which will focus on the development of new technologies in the green energy sector.
- The plant is part of Eneco's commitment to becoming climate neutral by 2035 and is aligned with the Netherlands' goal of reaching 4 GW of green hydrogen production capacity by 2030.
