Bitcoin's 2021 Energy Use Has Already Surpassed 2020
Sep 13, 2021 01:11 PM ET
- The Bitcoin network was estimated to consume about 67TWh of electrical power in 2020, and also its complete consumption has currently exceeded this in 2021.
By the end of this year, it looks set to have actually used 91TWh of energy - as much as Pakistan. As the cost of Bitcoin boosts, even more miners with much less energy-efficient makers sign up with the network, increasing energy usage. This means that it is necessary to enhance the efficiency of crypto-mining and relocate to low-carbon energy resources for power.
