The technology colossus is planning to deploy a huge solar park with a capacity of 149 megawatts. The facility will be located in the Spanish city of Sevilla. Two more installations, totaling 180 megawatts, will be created in the American states of Virginia and Illinois. In total, the photovoltaic trio is predicted to generate 700 thousand megawatt-hours of green power annually.

The Spanish and Illinois-based facilities are going to be the first ventures of the kind developed by Amazon in the areas. As for Virginia, the tech giant has already implemented eight clean energy projects in the state before.

All the three plants are meant to deliver electricity to AWS datacenters and Amazon’s EFN fulfilment network. The projects are implemented as part of Amazon’s ambition to reach 80-percent supply of its electricity needs from clean sources in five years. The green power deployments are also aimed at reducing CO2 emissions.

To date, the company owns 21 utility-scale solar and wind facilities, as well as over fifty rooftop PV installations globally with a total generation capacity of about 1.9 gigawatts. Taken together, the annual power supply from the projects exceeds 5.3m megawatt-hours.

According to chief executive of Illinois, Amazon is to help the state achieve its target of totally green power. Other American huge corporations have also taken active part in the solar development of the United States. By 2018, over 7 gigawatts of solar capacity have been installed throughout the country due to investments by corporate giants.
