- Fluence Energy chosen for 150MW battery project in England, boosting UK's energy storage capabilities with innovative technology.
SSE Renewables has chosen Fluence Energy Inc to provide technology for a 150-MW/300-MWh battery project in England. The project will be located at the site of a former coal-fired power station in Warrington and construction is set to begin soon. The battery will have a two-hour discharge capacity and will store electricity to be fed back to the UK National Grid during peak demand periods.
Fluence, a company formed by AES and Siemens, will supply the batteries for the project, with OCU Energy serving as the principal contractor. SSE Renewables made a final investment decision on the Fiddler's Ferry scheme in December, aiming to contribute to the UK's energy storage capabilities and support the grid during times of high demand.
