  • Pacific Gas as well as Electric Company (PG&E) has requested authorization from the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) for 6 brand-new battery projects completing 387 MW (1,548 MWh) of capacity. This comes after PG&E introduced in May 423 MW of energy storage space from five projects, set up to be online by August 2021.

The six project contracts from today total PG&E's purchase needs described in a November 2019 CPUC decision that recognized potential electric system reliability problems beginning in summer season of 2021. Because choice, the CPUC authorized PG&E to obtain a minimum of 716.9 MW of system integrity sources to come online between August 1, 2021 and also August 1, 2023. The 11 battery projects revealed this year by PG&E complete 810 MW.

"The following few years will certainly be pivotal for the deployment as well as assimilation of utility-scale battery power storage space onto the grid. PG&E has awarded contracts for battery power storage projects totaling more than 1,000 MW of capability to be released with 2023, all of which add to meeting California's ambitious clean power objectives while ensuring grid performance and also reliability, minimizing the requirement to construct extra nonrenewable fuel source generation plants, and also maintaining consumer prices inexpensive," claimed Fong Wan, elderly vice head of state, Energy Policy as well as Procurement, PG&E.

The project agreements resulted from a competitive ask for offers (RFO) PG&E introduced in July. The six new projects listed here all feature lithium-ion battery power storage technology, each with a four-hour discharge duration.

  • Nexus Renewables U.S. Inc.-- The AMCOR project is consisted of a 15-year contract for a fleet of behind-the-meter energy storage resources amounting to 27 MW located across a variety of sites in PG&E's service location.
  • Lancaster Battery Storage, LLC-- The Lancaster Battery Storage project is comprised of a 15-year agreement for a 127-MW transmission-connected stand‑alone battery situated in Lancaster, California. (Los Angeles County).
  • LeConte Energy Storage, LLC (a subsidiary of LS Power Associates, L.P.)-- The LeConte Energy Storage project is included a 15-year contract for a 40-MW transmission-connected stand‑alone battery located in Calexico, California. (Imperial County).
  • North Central Valley Energy Storage, LLC (a completely had subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources Development, LLC)-- The North Central Valley Energy Storage Project is comprised of a 15-year contract for a 132-MW transmission-connected battery situated in Linden, California. (San Joaquin County).
  • Daggett Solar Power 2, LLC (a subsidiary of Global Infrastructure Partners)-- The Daggett 2 BESS project is included a 15-year agreement for a 46-MW transmission-connected energy storage space source co-located with the Daggett 3 BESS Project in Daggett, California. (San Bernardino County).
  • Daggett Solar Power 3, LLC (a subsidiary of Global Infrastructure Partners)-- The Daggett 3 BESS project is comprised of a 15-year contract for a 15-MW transmission-connected battery power storage source co-located with the Daggett 2 BESS Project in Daggett, California. (San Bernardino County).

The AMCOR project, the Lancaster Battery Storage project and the LeConte Energy Storage project-- completing 194 MW-- are set up to find online by August 2022. The North Central Valley Energy Storage project and also both Daggett projects-- totaling 193 MW-- are arranged to be online by August 2023.
