  • The Government of Lithuania reportedly prepares to build one of the world's biggest battery parks as it separates from the Russian-controlled power grid.

The Government of Lithuania reportedly plans to build among the world's biggest battery parks as it detaches from the Russian-controlled power grid.

Reuters reported that the new battery park will be built by the end of following year.

The news agency priced estimate Lithuania Energy Minister Zygimantas Vaiciunas as claiming: "This will be among the largest as well as one of the most cutting-edge battery parks on the planet."

For this project, Lithuania plans to make a financial investment of $117.6 m (EUR100m). This will see the installation of four 50MW batteries, with a minimum of 200MWh of power storage space ability.

According to the US Department of Energy data source, the largest straight energy storage projects in the world are two lithium ion battery projects in California. These are the 450MW Crimson Energy Storage and also 300MW Vistra Moss Landing Energy Storage.

Along with sustaining the growth of a battery park, the government prepares to enhance its sustainable power generation capability.

Battery storage systems can soak up surplus power from wind as well as solar power at optimal generation hrs. They can additionally make up sometimes of reduced generation, enabling greater grid stability as sustainable usage increases.

Ignitis Group, a state-owned energy firm in Lithuania, said the country intends to raise its sustainable power generation ability from 1.8 GW in 2019, to 4GW in 2030.
