  • The United States state of Georgia's Public Service Commission (PSC) has accepted state utility Georgia Power's 2022 Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) that draws up exactly how the firm will deploy even more renewables as well as energy storage space innovation over the following 3 years as well as strengthen the state's network of transmission lines and grid infrastructure.

The authorized 2022 IRP, which was full of PSC back in February, will see the business release 2,300 MW of new renewable energy resources over the next three years, with its long-term plan targeting a total of 6,000 MW of additional renewable resources by 2035.

It will likewise see 500MW of battery storage turned out, with progress currently made on a 65MW project in Talbot County (Mossy Branch) and a 13MW project with the US Army at Ft Stewart near Savannah.

On top of this, Georgia Power has suggested a pilot distributed energy resource (DER) scheme for 250MW of generation. The 'DER Customer Program' makes it possible for getting involved customers to get a resiliency service via a company-owned, ran and also maintained DER, such as a solar and battery energy storage space system, with participants able to elect to obtain a credit score in exchange for the business's ability to access the DER.

Additionally, Georgia Power has authorized the retirement as well as decertification of all Georgia Power-controlled coal units by 2028, with the exception of one website, Plant Bowen, although it has authorized greater than 2,000 MW of capacity from gas power purchase contracts (PPAs) in the coming years.

The utility claimed it was "exceptionally essential" to continue financial investments in renewables and also gird infrastructure by "working constructively with the Georgia Public Service Commission" as it looks to build out its renewable energy resources.

Georgia Power files an IRP with the Georgia PSC every three years to detail just how it will provide energy to its 2.7 million customers over the following 20 years.
