  • Equinor's Texas energy storage projects set to boost capacity by 110 MW, with Sunset Ridge already under construction and Citrus Flatts on the horizon.

Norwegian energy major Equinor ASA is set to add 110 MW of battery capacity in Texas through its two inaugural energy storage projects in the US market. The projects were acquired as part of Equinor's portfolio following the acquisition of battery storage developer East Point Energy LLC. The Sunset Ridge battery energy storage system project in Frio County has already begun construction and is expected to be operational in the second half of this year.

Equinor is also preparing to implement the Citrus Flatts project in Cameron County, which will add 100 MW/200 MWh of energy storage capacity. Both projects will be interconnected to the distribution networks of South Texas Electric Cooperative and American Electric Power, respectively. Once operational, the battery units will be commercialized by Equinor's energy trading house Danske Commodities in Texas' ERCOT power market.
