  • Estonia-based energy business Eesti Energia prepares to install what will be its home country's first grid-scale battery energy storage space system (BESS), of 25 MW/50 MWh in size.

The state-owned group said recently it has actually launched a procurement to find a distributor for the center this summer. The procedure will be open internationally.

The pilot BESS is set up to begin procedures in the second half of next year.

The proposed center is intended to be mounted in Ida-Viru county in Estonia's northeast. It will certainly supply one hour of storage space capability, throughout which it will release electrical power equal to the usage of around 150,000 houses. It will enable the storage space of solar energy produced by 2,500 property installations for over 2 hrs.

The concept will possibly be utilized as a feasible remedy both in Estonia and the company's various other retail markets.

Eesti Energia aims to stop creating power from oil shale by 2030 and also shift solely to eco-friendly electricity manufacturing. Last summer, it unveiled a plan to develop an up to 225-MW pumped-storage hydropower plant in Ida-Viru County as well as protected state moneying a few months later.
