Acciona Preps 380-MWp Solar Park in Australia

Spanish energy giant Acciona is set to start building the 380MW Aldoga solar project in Queensland, Australia, in early 2024. The AUD 500 million project will create 350 jobs in the construction process and once operational, will be able to supply 185,000 households with renewable energy. The project will also power the Central Queensland Hydrogen Project, a 2.24GW initiative that will produce green hydrogen for export and for local industries. Madird-based Acciona currently has 1.6GW of renewable generation capacity in the country, while a 15-year power purchase agreement was signed with Stanwell Corporation in October.

Will Acciona's AUD 500M Aldoga Solar Project Power 185K Households?

  • The 380MW Aldoga solar project will cover an area of 600 hectares and will be powered by 1.25 million solar panels.
  • The project is expected to contribute an additional AUD 6.4 million in direct expenditure to the local economy over its life time.
  • The Queensland Government has committed AUD 3.5 million in funding to the Aldoga Solar project, as part of its AUD 500 million Queensland Renewable Energy Fund.
  • The project is part of the Queensland Government's commitment to producing 50% of its energy from renewable sources by 2030.
  • Acciona is also investing in other renewable energy projects in Australia, including the AUD 80 million Kennedy Energy Park in North Queensland.
  • The Kennedy Energy Park is a hybrid solar, wind and battery storage facility that will produce enough energy to power 57,000 homes.
