What is Range of application of photovoltaic?

Photovoltaic cells convert sunlight into DC electricity, which can be used for battery charging and equipment powering. Initially, PV was practically applied to power orbiting satellites and various spacecrafts. Nowadays, most solar panels are used for on-grid power generation, in which case a power inverter for converting direct current into alternating current is required. The off-the-grid solar market is smaller. Autonomous systems are primarily meant for isolated areas, boats, EVs and RVs, SOS phones, remote sensing, and cathodic protection of pipelines.
