What is Maximum power point tracker (MPPT)?

A power conditioning unit operating a solar generator at its MPP under all conditions, and optimizing the match between a photovoltaic array and a power grid or energy storage system. As a rule, an MPP tracker increases the power supplied to the system by 10-40 percent, which depends on a battery state of charge as well as climate conditions. Most power point trackers act as down-converters, i.e. they convert higher into lower voltage. See also maximum power tracking.
