Iberdrola Lights Up 200 MW Solar Farm in Spain

Iberdrola has initiated the commissioning of its 200-MW solar power complex known as Tagus I-IV, located in the region of Extremadura, western Spain. The complex is composed of four solar farms and has used close to 308,000 bifacial solar panels, mounted on fixed racks supplied by Spanish firm Gonvarri Solar Steel. The project has also contributed to the creation of local jobs, as Extremadura-based companies Galvexa and Imedexsa were called to participate in its construction. With the Tagus I-IV complex, Iberdrola now has 23 renewable energy facilities in operation in Extremadura, with solar accounting for 2,200 MW of the group's 4,200 MW installed “green capacity” in the region.

What Impact Has Iberdrola's 200-MW Tagus I-IV Solar Complex Had?

  • The Tagus I-IV complex has provided enough clean energy to supply over 125,000 homes.
  • It is expected to reduce the region's annual carbon dioxide emissions by over 170,000 tonnes.
  • The project also created over 600 jobs during the construction phase and up to 10 permanent positions.
  • It is estimated that the Tagus I-IV solar complex has resulted in an investment of around €230 million in the region.
  • It is also believed that the solar project is expected to provide a boost to the local economy through revenue from taxes and other fees.
