  • Amazon Web Services partners with Bord na Mona for 105-MW wind power deal in Ireland, paving the way for eco-friendly data centers in the Midlands.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has signed a 105-MW wind power purchase agreement (PPA) with Irish semi-state company Bord na Mona as part of its plan to invest in up to 800 MW of new renewable energy projects in Ireland. The deal involves Bord na Mona's Derrinlough wind farm in County Offaly, in the Irish Midlands. AWS has also agreed to join Bord na Mona's Eco Energy Park in the Midlands, which will provide low-carbon electricity to large companies operating on the site.

By joining the Eco Energy Park, AWS secures a pathway to develop data centers in the Midlands powered by wind and solar electricity. This move aligns with Amazon's goal to use 100% renewable energy for its operations by 2025. The initiative will support the development of more than 200 MW of low to zero-carbon power generation at the Eco Energy Park, including wind, solar, gas, and potentially battery and hydrogen technologies.
