SEG Solar, a US PV manufacturer, has signed a land deal in Indonesia to build a multi-gigawatt-scale manufacturing complex for solar equipment. The USD-500-million-plus industrial PV production complex will be located in Batang Regency, Central Java, covering 40 hectares. The site will have the capacity to produce 5 GW of silicon wafers, 5 GW of solar cells, and 5 GW of modules.
The project is expected to create over 3,000 jobs and is set to begin operations in the second quarter of next year. SEG Solar also plans to build a 2-GW factory in Houston and aims to have more than 5.5 GW of global panel production capacity by 2024. The Indonesian facility will be the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia.
